At Kaleidoscope we can’t conceive of a summer without a good book at hand.
Maybe this post will find you heading to the beach, the mountains or your town, but wherever you are, you’re sure you’ve packed a book in your suitcase. Books are faithful travel companions and for many people it is in summer, during their holidays, when they can enjoy reading the most.
It seems that in summer everything calms down and slows down and for that reason, from Kaleidoscope, we want to share with you 5 books on architecture, decoration and interior design in which you can immerse yourself this holiday.
Don’t panic, they are not too technical books or in which you need certain information to enjoy them. Quite the opposite. They are books designed to make these disciplines accessible and interesting to the general public.
So, after this brief introduction, we begin.
- The Invention of the Past: Interior Design and Architecture of Studio Peregall, by Laura Sartori Rimini and Roberto Peregalli.
The Peregalli studio in Milan is an interior architecture studio that creates projects that look old and simulate lived-in spaces, full of history and spectacular details. They are able to create Stunning environments that capture the classic elegance of the past, imitating styles as diverse as the Renaissance or the Victorian style. They create interiors that are atmospheric and magical, evoking a real or imagined past. A gem of a book.
- Las casas bellas, by Cristina Camarena and Montse Mármol.
This book is a journey through the homes of 16 men and women from different parts of the world who open the doors of their homes and tell us how they live. We like this book because it contrasts very different styles and because, in addition, they are real houses in which people like you or me live every day. A celebration of home.
- A journey through the world of interiors, various authors.
If you like decoration and interior design, this is your book. A very visual collection of the most exceptional and inspiring interior design projects of today. The book travels the six continents through wonderful images.
It includes projects in a lot of countries and they don’t forget Spain.
- Draw Me a House, by Thibaud Herem.
Because children also have a place in our selection, we present “Draw me a house”, an interactive book that is a journey through time and around the world.
To think, doodle, color and become familiar with the architectural elements.
From Gaudí’s chimneys in Barcelona, to the Chrysler dome in New York.
The reader will be able to design hanging houses in the trees of the forest, expand the construction of the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, or repair the Roman aqueduct.
- The Fountainhead, by Ayn Rand
We did not want to end our selection without including one of the most acclaimed novels that has architecture as its background but that deals with the integrity of the human being.
The protagonist of the novel, Howard Roark, is a young architect who decides to fight against social conventionalism, preconceived ideas and prejudices, without falling into the vulgar and without getting carried away.
These are some of the books that we would like to recommend to you from Kaleidoscope. They are books that have recently passed through our bedside tables, that are part of our library, that we have read years ago or that we are enjoying at the moment.
Now it’s your turn… what book are you going to pack this holiday?
